Common Injuries Suffered when Playing Netball

Publicado: 2014-01-17

Injuries are sometimes unavoidable when playing netball shoes Singapore. The game requires the player to make drastic and forceful movements which can strain any parts of the body. In Australia, netball injuries ranked seventh in the country’s list of sports injuries. It is crucial, therefore, to know these physical afflictions so that you can avoid them or at least prevent further damages.

Overextension is the most common netball injury. This is brought about by the stress and friction caused by playing over a long period of time. As the muscles of the body are put to severe strain, they slowly wear out and get smashed up. Overextension often affects the knees and ankles, and can sometimes be experienced in the wrist and hands.

Injury to the knee is another frequent netball affliction. The knee absorbs the weight of the whole upper part of the body. Movements like running and jumping exert further force on the knees. As the knee is subjected to an increasing amount of pressure over an extended period of time, it loses its strength and becomes prone to injury. It is, therefore, important that the knees are checked regularly to avoid its deterioration.

Netball collision is another cause of physical injuries among players. There are unavoidable situations where players fall on top of each other or bump each other accidentally. The force of the impact results to concussion, broken nose, sprain, bone fracture, or dislocation of the joints. Immediate medical attention is needed when players suffer injuries involving the bones.

Netball injuries can be avoided in a lot of different ways. Physical preparation is one of the best ways to avoid injuries. Exercises and constant practice prepare the body for the physical demand of the game. Balance and body coordination are developed in practice and prepare the player to avoid falling down or crashing against each other. Stretching and warming up also helps in preventing muscle injuries. By limbering up the muscle, it can gradually transition and prepare for the more physical demands of netball.

Mastery of the netball game is also very important in preventing injuries. Having the ability to execute moves with grace and fluidity will lessen the strain put against the muscle. As such, it is important for athletes to consistently practice their moves.

Keeping the court free of any wet spots will also help in avoiding slips and falls. Goal posts must always have protective covers or padding. In short, proper maintenance of the netball court is equally important. In the same manner, players must also maintain and keep all equipment they use in tiptop shape. Their shoes, for example, must always be comfortable and flexible to allow them effortless movement on the playing court.

While a medical treatment is needed when experiencing injuries, what is crucial is the first few minutes after a mishap happens. Immediate medical attention or first aid must be provided to avoid the injury from getting even more serious.
